I think it is important to have a safe learning environment, build relationships with students, scaffold and differentiate where needed, communication with students AND families, provide access to a wide range of materials and resources. It is also important to build relationships with the families and ensure they feel included- meeting their needs as far as language goes. Incorporating the different cultures into readings and lessons has been shown to be extremely beneficial. Also, ensuring that students are included when working with others (both with similar needs/abilities and those that give them a challenge/others the opportunity to teach/learn).
