Scenario Response 2
Module 3: Scenario Discussion
When a new family and student moves into my classroom that comes from a country with very divergent cultural beliefs, it would be very important to learn more about their country and beliefs as a means of getting to know them. This can be done by attending cultural events in the community, assigning projects that allow all students to share information about their cultural backgrounds and by spending time talking with the student and family. It would be important to make the student's transition as easy as possible by providing supports and helping the student and family to understand how the school and classroom works as well as introducing the curriculum to them. Scaffolding learning experiences is also important so that the student can learn without becoming frustrated. Lastly it is important to reflect on my own cultural beliefs to make sure they do not interfere with me being supportive to the student and family.
