Module 6 Discussion: Language and Learning

One of the strategies that I utilize for a beginning or emergent level ELL student is the use of repetition, that would help the student tremendously because it helps them embed the information in their brain.  In guided reading groups I select books that have pattern and repetition  Students have activities that include similar themes with word order, sentence starters etc.  For beginning ELL students I like to use materials that also have pictures in place of words for increased understanding.  While other students are working on a writing lesson, I may have an ELL student use sentence starters or copy work of words and  incorporate illustrations into their show lesson mastery.
