Module 6 Discussion: Language and Learning

Language in content areas in so important! We need to give students the opportunity to learn language in a real work authentic way.  

I never present vocabulary in isolation. We first learn vocabulary through body movements and pictures.  We then see the vocabulary being used in whole group reading with the text on the board digitally.  Then we see it agin in small guided reading.  Then we use it in response writing to the text.  Then we use it in our own individual writing with illustrations.  

I can foresee ELL students needing additional help with writing and at first it might just be illustrations to know if they comprehend the vocabulary.  There are many different fun ways to learn vocabulary that help all learners!
