Module 1: Goals for This Course and Thoughts About Article

My goal is to complete the course in order to obtain my endorsement. However, I believe this course will allow me to help my students and be more understanding of their challenges. When I looked at the student learning outcomes, these 3 stood out:

• Use common, grade appropriate strategy ideas across all content areas in order to leverage ELL student success.
• Understand and apply multiple strategies to aid in the successful literacy effort of struggling learners and ELLs.
• Collaborate among multiple disciplines in order to better accommodate the needs of struggling learners.

As for my thoughts on the article, I was happy to see it included. I do not believe this is discussed enough. There are multiple reasons why we see such a disparity between different groups of students. That article hit on one of the big reasons. Even if you don't think that article applies to you, we all have implicit biases and need to do whatever we can to be conscious of it and take the steps to mitigate it.
