Students coming into our classrooms already have enough stress to deal with, if they come from another culture, it can cause even more stress. As a teacher it is my job to understand and learn about their culture, so that there are not any cultural miscommunications.  When a new student comes in it is my responsibility to research their culture. I could make a visit to their home to build a relationship with their parents and to understand more about their cultural norms. Lessons can be from a multi-cultural viewpoint which will allow the students to feel included. One of the most important things I can do is to show empathy, let them know that you are there to support them through this transition to a new school. Share important resources with the parents so that they can help their student through the transition.
