Module 1: Goals for This Course and Thoughts About Article

The primary goal is the complete the ESOL requirement for this year. The secondary goal is to ultimately improve my teaching by improving my relationship with my students. I have been teaching in an alternative school 90% of my students are minorities.   I would like to accomplish this by learning better ways to teach language, writing, and critical thinking.

I make every attempt to include as much material written by minorities in my lessons.  I think when I first began teaching at this school it was ackward as I was over aware that I was white and almost all my students were black and I did not want to do anything that would offend them or was not culturaly sensitive.  However, after several years there I am much more relaxed and it is not as ackward for me.
