If I had new students in my classroom with very divergent cultural beliefs, I would first educate myself about their culture and their cultural beliefs.  It is my job to accommodate any educational/social emotional needs of the children in my classroom and learning about the culture would be a great first step in doing this.  I also create a classroom that is a family type of environment, where all students are accepted regardless of race, culture, etc…Building a positive classroom environment not only helps with building the foundation of a great education but creates a warm, inviting atmosphere where people of all cultures are welcomed, valued, and accepted.  Finally, I would see if there is someone in my school or county that speaks the language and/or is from that culture.  Having someone that you can relate to can make all the difference!
