If I had a student with divergent cultural beliefs, I would start by doing research on the culture and involving the parents to get their perspective on the differences. I would work hard to partner with the parents to ensure we are on the same page and sending consistent messages to the student. I would try my best to affirm their culture while letting them know the expectations in this setting.
