One of the ideas that was shared here is holding a homework workshop at the beginning of the school year. This is a great idea. I can see the value of talking with parents about the purpose of homework, how to help their students succeed when it comes to completing homework, and how to encourage creativity.

I think creative connections with learning is an important factor that can be helpful in getting guardians connecting with their children. When teaching matter, I have students and their families make a list of solids, liquids, and gases in the kitchen used for cooking.

Having positive reasons for families to come to school is a great way to engage everyone. We used to have science night. The students would set up little experiments in the cafeteria. Families would travel from one station to the next. I could see doing this for social studies as well.

Getting families involved is a beneficial way of building relationships.
