  • Whole class: Fishbowl- students work in large groups, observe others, have speaking prompts available, and then can reflect on the discussion individually. This incorporates elements of both learning types.
    • Provide sentence frames and glossary of related academic terms
  • Buddies: Think-Pair-Share gives both learning types an opportunity to practice what is comfortable to them.
    • Careful pairing of an ELL student with an English-fluent student who shows readiness to share learning and literacy assistance
  • Small Groups: PARIS method- students work in small groups to predict, ask questions, retell, infer, and summarize. This activity asks students to work/think independently and collaboratively.
    • Provide sentence frames and a glossary, provide an amplified/enriched text to ELLs, offer extended time to complete
  • Individuals: Concept map- a teacher can guide a student through describing and analyzing their own thinking.
    • Offer a concept map with sentence frames built in, model thinking process, praise connections the student makes that are meaningful to them
