Students are working on a math/economics project where they have to spend a certain amount of money, calculate as they go, write an opinion and then type a brochure on the computer. There are many steps that have to be completed. They have a checklist and a rough timeline as they go. They are able to work with partners to keep each other in check. It takes at least a week to complete and then they present. I check in with them throughout making sure they are understanding each piece and staying on track. I may ask "how are you doing?", "did you go through the checklist and do everything it asked?", "is there any questions you have for me"? "you are off to a great start! now how about ____?" With students who are struggling I may have to pull into a small group to make sure they are headed in the right direction and understand the expectations.
