The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) is made up of 8 elements that help make content comprehensible for our English Language Learners.  They key components of teaching language and content effectively consist of preparation, building background, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, practice/application, lesson delivery, review and assessment. When a teacher or school utilizes these key components it allows for content to be comprehensible for our ELL students. When content is made comprehensible then academic achievement and success will occur.
