I found it very reassuring that my classroom linguistic routines are very constant to what I read about morphological awareness.

I do a daily morning meeting that covers what we are doing for the day as well as the week. I do “social stories” for my class and that helps my students that are on the autism spectrum.  I act out social scenarios that help students understand how to be kind and accepting as well as how to handle conflict. I am always cycling back and going over rules and procedures.  I know sometimes we think we only need to do it once, but that is not the case.  I have my students practice procedures throughout the year.  Especially before and after breaks when I notice a change in behaviors.

We are constantly practicing phonics and vocabulary.  the words go up on a word wall for students to utilize.  We so a lot of acting out vocabulary to help students use their whole body to memorize the words.

I also do many read aloud‘s with my students. I make sure to ick books that they are interested in as well as reading books that have rich vocabulary a few grade levels above.
