Accountable talk

Accountable talk

With my class, I like to use what I teach as accountable talk. I believe that it gets the children use to talking about the academic content and carries over to social interaction. I teach them respectful language of agreeing and disagreeing with one another then explaining why you agree or disagree giving examples of how they believe and why they think that instead of just saying, I agree.

I also use choral response to help them get started when first learning the strategy. I like the fishbowl strategy, and think that I will use it in the future choosing my groups strategically as to assist those who may need more examples and listening as opposed to talking first.I also like the strategy of having the students walk around and asking students to question their class mates and listening to their answers. I use a Kagan strat. that resembles that technique.
