Module 1: Goals for This Course and Thoughts About Article

My goals for this course is to learn new practices to help reach my ENL student. Also to learn ways to help all of my students in the area of language.

After reading that article I took much offense to some of what the author wrote. As a teacher that has taught both in a title one school and then a more affluent school I have learned that it is less of how a teacher acts in these situations and more of how administrators structure a school. If you split classes between Cambridge and core you will see how the school itself segregates student. Even guided reading groups look at the difference in the separate groups. This is not a teacher separating students in such a way but a system that divides the lower kids from the higher kids. I agree with some of the article that the way teachers then talk about their students is wrong to feel bad for those kids but in the end it’s a broken system that sets people up for that.
