I think I would change the groups and have students work with different classmates. If they have been in the same group all year, they are probably getting too comfortable. Working with new people helps students learn from each other and keeps them challenged.

I would use flexible grouping and cooperative learning. In PE, I change partners and teams all the time. Students learn different things from different people, and it helps everyone stay involved. I think changing the groups would help students keep growing both socially and academically.
