Mod 9 Discussion: Oral Language Support in My Classroom

Some key principles for academic discussion that I would emphasize in my classroom include active listening, evidence based responses, and respectful communication to name a few. Students listen carefully to understand others' ideas before responding, support their opinions with evidence from the text or prior knowledge all while being respectful and use appropriate language when talking with peers. To help students practice these principles, I would adapt them using sentence starters and sentence frames. These supports provide structure for students who may struggle with organizing their thoughts or participating in discussions.
