Mod 9 Discussion: Oral Language Support in My Classroom
Module 9 Discussion
A method I noted in the text was something called the "jigsaw" method, where students become "experts" on a single topic, then share their expertise with other groups during discussion. I like this method a lot, and think it takes a lot of weight off students' shoulders when it comes to more complex ideas. For example, next year when I'm teaching expository and argumentative writing, I may split students into different groups to become "experts" on introduction paragraphs, body paragraphs, conclusion paragraphs, thesis statements, and topic sentences. There would be a larger class discussion and I would still do my scaffolded lesson plan I typically do, but I think this could be really beneficial.
