Refraining from correcting students during this stage serves as a progression of mastering the grammatical complexities. In this early stage of learning ELL students will make grammatical errors that do not affect understanding. Vocabulary mistakes that interrupts comprehension are important because student are able to master new verbs and nouns as they continue their education as well as through verbal communication and conversation. If an ELL needs correction it's typically because it affects their comprehension and understanding of what a word or phrase is.
