The Edutopia video building cross curricular connections in two languages, highlighted how a dual language program can promote both language development and cultural understanding. In the video, the teachers collaborated to provide instruction in both mandarin and English, helping students learn a second language while also developing respect and appreciation for culture different from their own. The program emphasizes that language learning is not just about vocabulary and grammar, but also about building relationships, empathy, and a sense of belonging. This approach connects closely to my own work with students because it demonstrates the importance of doing students cultures and linguistic backgrounds as assets rather than barriers. When students see their languages and cultures represented in the classroom, they are more likely to feel included, engaged, and confident in their learning. The video also reinforced the ideas that collaborative learning experiences can help students develop communication skills and cultural awareness at the same time.
