Mod 13 Discussion: Aligning Curriculum
Module 13 discussion
Criteria 1 (aligning instruction to Common Core or state standards) and 4 (regularly assessing whether students are mastering the content skills in the lesson/unit) are both important in my teaching practice. For Criterion 1, I must ensure that all instructional content and learning activities are directly aligned with the required standards. This alignment helps guarantee that students are developing the competencies expected at the state level. Criterion 4 reminds me of the importance of continuously monitoring whether students are truly mastering the skills and knowledge taught in each lesson or unit. In my Health Science Foundations and Nurse Assisting courses, this is very important because students must apply what they learn in clinical settings. Their learning is also evaluated through the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification exams, which include both a written assessment and a practical skills test.
