One formative assessment strategy I have successfully implemented is the use of a word wall. I incorporate word walls when introducing new medical terminology to students. Displaying these terms in the classroom reinforces both recognition and understanding, as students encounter the vocabulary repeatedly during class. I update the word wall with each new unit or chapter to align with the content being taught. This approach supports not only memorization but also deeper comprehension of terminology and its application within the healthcare field.

A formative assessment method I would like to use in the future is the writing process. I teach senior high school students in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, and I believe this approach would be valuable as part of their senior-year capstone project. Students would select a healthcare-related topic of interest (advancements in healthcare or ethical issues, etc.) and apply the stages of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and producing a final draft. This method allows students to demonstrate their cumulative learning while strengthening their writing skills.
