Discussion: Final Reflection

Through this course, I have gained more insight into the relationship between language acquisition and teaching, assessing, and class climate. I was introduced to scaffolding, differentiation, discussion skills, and vocabulary development techniques that can enable ELL students gain access to grade-level materials. One aspect of this course that I liked is the concentration on techniques that can be implemented in the classroom. Sentence frames, collaborative learning, formative assessments, and sheltered instruction were some of the techniques emphasized by this course. Additionally, the course provided me with information on how to create classrooms where the learning environment is positive and inclusive. As such, this course helped me to gain more confidence while designing instruction for students at various language proficiency levels.
