Mod 8 Video Discussion
Mod 8 discussion
In my class, we focus a lot on building relationships with students and having conversations with them as much as possible, especially since many of my students receive speech and language therapy. Consistent communication and trust helps them feel more comfortable participating and using language throughout the day.
As we saw in the videos, we also use a lot of color-coding as a scaffold. For example, we use a different-colored crayon for each question and have students underline the part of the text where they found the answer in that same color. This helps students stay organized, slows them down to actually look back in the text, and supports comprehension by connecting the question directly to evidence.
Almost all of my assignments include a drawing and an assisted writing piece. The drawing helps students express what they understood, even if their language is limited, and the writing (with support such as sentence stems or guided prompts) helps me see what they know and what they understood from the text. This combination gives students multiple ways to show understanding and gives me clear information to guide instruction.
