Scenario Response 2
Scenario 2
For this student, I would use read-alouds with audio support along with the Five-Finger Summary as support strategies. Even though the student can decode text at nearly grade level, he struggles with comprehension, indicating he needs more help understanding meaning rather than reading accuracy.
I would start by explicitly teaching how the Five-Finger Summary works and explaining what each finger represents. The student would first read the text independently, then listen to the same text through audio, and finally listen as I read it aloud. This repeated exposure gives the student multiple opportunities to process the information and supports academic language development. After reading, the student would complete the Five-Finger Summary. If needed, I would provide sentence stems and guided prompts to help him organize his thoughts and respond to key ideas.
These strategies fit this learner well because they lower the language demands, support comprehension, and give the student a clear structure to show understanding while continuing to build English proficiency.
