According to brain-based theory, specifically the Acquisition Versus Learning Hypothesis, students learn language best through meaningful exposure rather than constant correction or direct instruction. This student is in the silent stage, which is a normal and expected part of learning a new language. In this situation, I would focus more on acquisition instead of pushing her to talk before she’s ready. I would pair what I say with visuals and gestures and keep my sentences short and simple, so they’re easier to understand. I would also start with low-pressure questions, like yes/no questions, so she can show what she knows without feeling anxious.  I would want to create a calm, supportive environment that helps her build confidence and allows language to develop naturally over time.
