Mod 19 Discussion: Taking the Lead on Literacy

One content area approach I would recommend for colleagues across all subjects is graphic organizers.
Graphic organizers are versatile visual tools that help students organize their thinking, see relationships between ideas, and make complex information more manageable. They work in math by helping with problem-solving steps, fractions, and equations; in science for life cycles, food chains, and experiments; in history for timelines, cause-and-effect, and comparison charts; in physical education for strategies for games or fitness plans; and in the fine arts for storyboarding or analyzing elements of art.
I feel comfortable using and teaching colleagues about graphic organizers because they are easy to implement, adaptable for any grade level, and provide immediate benefits for students with different learning styles, including visual learners and English language learners. I could show examples, guide teachers in creating their own for lessons, and explain how to assess student understanding through them.
