Mod 11 Discussion: Teaching Critical Literacy
module 4
As I reflect on Critical Literacy Theory, I see how important it is for helping students question and analyze the texts they read. This approach goes beyond just understanding the words. It encourages students to think about who created the text, whose voices are represented, and whose voices might be missing. It helps students become more aware of perspective, bias, and real-world issues.
I want to use bookmarks as a creative tool to support this approach. Students can write their thoughts, questions, or reflections directly on the bookmarks while reading. This gives them a chance to process the text as they go, identify issues or ideas they are struggling with, and track their thinking. Using bookmarks in this way can help students become more independent, engaged readers who take ownership of their learning and develop stronger comprehension and critical thinking skills.
