Mod 13 Discussion: Aligning Curriculum
discussion 13
Of the Achieve ELA criteria, I believe that responding to students’ varied needs for instructional support is the most important for my curriculum goals and work with students. While aligning to standards and reflecting the key shifts are essential, I find that meeting students where they are is the key to real learning. Every student comes with different language abilities, literacy skills, and prior knowledge, especially in diverse or inclusive classrooms.
By focusing on varied instructional support, I can differentiate lessons, provide scaffolding, and offer targeted interventions so that all students can access the content and make meaningful progress. This approach ensures that standards are not just taught, but actually learned and applied. I also find that responding to students’ needs informs my assessment practices, allowing me to adjust instruction and provide additional support where necessary.
Ultimately, prioritizing student-centered support helps me create a classroom where every learner has the opportunity to succeed, which aligns with my overall goal of building both skills and confidence in reading and writing.
