Mod 19 Discussion: Taking the Lead on Literacy

I would recommend writing across all content areas to my colleagues.  That is also the one approach that I am the most comfortable using.  I would share the benefits of writing across all content areas and ways to implement it.  In my classroom we write across all content areas in the following ways:

• annotate text/passages
  • ELA
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • math
• take notes using structured note taking or unstructured note taking in ELA, science, social studies
• write responses to prompts and word problems in math
• explain our answers and ways we solved in math in written form
• quick writes in social studies, ELA, science
• write essays/paragraphs in response to our text/passages in reading, science, social studies
• compare & contrast in all content areas in written format
• write to take a stance on a statement
