Scenario Response 5
Scenario Response 5
Since a majority of the class is reading 2 grade levels below grade level, I'm going to use the following strategies for the whole group and whole group instruction:
- 5x5 Fluency
- 5 minutes a day of fluent reading strategies
- repeated readings of the same passage (grade level text) using choral read, echo read, whisper read, and annotating the text
- 5 minutes a day of fluent reading strategies
- Frayer models for vocabulary
- Annotating the text along with note taking strategies
- Modeling!!! Tons of modeling along with guided practice before releasing them to independent practice
- Finding evidence in the text
- Graphic organizers
- Accountable talks
- Sentence stems
- Think, Pair, Share and other partnering techniques
- using these strategies before a written response so students hear the thinking of others, have ideas to record, and can free up some of their brain capacity to form a written response
- Kagan grouping
- Group projects/group work
- Test taking skills instruction and built in teachable moments in lessons (quick checks/check for Understanding, etc)
For more individualized instruction, I am definitely going to meet with students and confer, have small groups, and progress monitor. We would do the same strategies that I teach during whole group lessons in our small group but one grade level higher than their independent level.
