Mod 19 Discussion: Taking the Lead on Literacy

I feel that being able to access the huge amount of vocabulary that is encountered in all subjects is something that other subject teachers can benefit from. There are many ways to help students take ownership of vocabulary words. I would be comfortable showing my collegues how to introduce the essential vocabulary words that are on the list of the corse curriculum. The leveled methods that get the students to remember the words and then finding the higher level of seeing how those words can be used. The method I suggested in another post was to have the students look up the words in groups, take time to study them and then compete for something in groups, then make an exit ticket of a few words. Second step is to create a visual representation along with the word, and hang it up somewhere. Finally, find the word in some real life situations and explain what is going on with the word in a short piece of writing.
