From looking at Halliday's work, I would seek to build this student's vocabulary so they could integrate better socially. There are a number of reasons I would choose to do this. It would provide the student with greater effective communication skills which would allow them to to have greater interactions with their teachers and peers. In addition,  it would further enhance their comprehension of what their peers are saying and further integrate them within social settings and the school community at large. It would help them express their ideas both verbally and in writing.  It would allow them to participate more in classroom discussions and to have a greater understanding of instructions. Finally, it would allow them to connect more deeply with others and build relationships and friendships.
