Scenario Response 6
Scenario 6
In an ideal and perfect world we want what is best for our students so ultimately we would want the child to succeed both socially and academically. The truth is that the student may only have exposure to content vocabulary in my classroom; where they may have greater opportunities to integrate socially in other aspects of their day to day life. With that being said I would build the student to gain better mastery over new vocabulary. According to the information provided in this module “Research continues to show that students comprehend better with vocabulary instruction than without it (Marzano, 2010). Building background knowledge is as crucial to this as is the direct instruction of vocabulary, and is more important than IQ when it comes to understanding reading.” If you promote the social aspect of language and fail to integrate vocabulary instruction the student will be able to communicate with peers however struggle academically.
