Mod 9 Discussion: Oral Language Support in My Classroom

Some key principles for academic discussion that I could focus on in my classroom are pre-teaching and student engagement. Pre-teaching gives students a chance to learn some important facts or terms that will be useful throughout their lesson. Some methods I can think of is doing picture walks through the book, videos of the culture or timeline of the story to introduce setting, possibly a fun game trying to learn what the new terms mean. 

Engagement is the other one that I find beyond important. When students are engaged they LEARN and they have more fun in the process. Engagement can look like games, group work, songs, acting out the stories, and many other activities. The engagement of the activity also helps the learning stick for the students.
