Because the students have remained in the same group all year and are getting “too comfortable” there is a great need to disrupt the established social dynamics and introduce new challenges. My primary strategy would be to utilize Heterogeneous Grouping. The new groups would incorporate mixed academic levels, each group would intentionally include a variety of students. The goal is to ensure each group has at least one strong academic contributor and, where possible, a student who is socially adept and a good communicator. I would be sure to create an environment where all learners can experience some type of success.
