The strategy that could be most useful in my 4th grade math classroom is the compare and contrast key questions. I could use this specifically when teaching area and perimeter.

Key Questions to Focus On:

  1. What are we measuring with area vs. perimeter?

  2. What units do we use for area vs. perimeter? Why are they different?

  3. How do we calculate area vs. perimeter? What operations are involved?

  4. When would we use area vs. perimeter in a real-world situation?

  5. Can two shapes have the same perimeter but different areas? The same area but different perimeters?
