I believe that this student is in Brain-Based Theory. The student is learning the new language for the first time. It states that the brain-based theories propose five hypotheses: Acquisition versus learning, natural order, monitor, affective filter, and input. The acquisition versus learning hypotheses has a "silent stage" for second language learners. The student first started in the classroom being silent and listening closely. Now she is starting to feel secure, Affective Filter Hypothesis, which helps continue learning and advance academically.
