Think about a time when you experienced culture shock, either by visiting another country for a period of time, another region, or even by changing jobs or schools (corporate or academic culture). Culture has many colors.

  • Describe your experience, and how you felt.
  • Describe how you were able to orient yourself to the new culture.
  • What are/were the implications for your own classrooms?

Good morning:

A few years ago, I visited Poland with my family. A the beginning, I felt nervous because my communication skills in Polish is 0%. I felt lost, but I interact with the people using my dictionary, body signs, etc. The people were very nice. They tried to help me all the time with directions. I believe you need to be open to new culture, new experiences to receive the same in return. Traveling to different countries and cultures has taught me to me more sensitive to the cultural differences. I love teaching students from different backgrounds.
