Curriculum Screening Checklist for Cultural Relevance, Bias, Standards Alignment, and Differentiation
As part of our curriculum committee review process, this checklist will guide our screening of curriculum and assessments to ensure they are inclusive, equitable, rigorous, and supportive of all learners:
1. Cultural Relevance

☐ Includes contributions and perspectives of multiple cultural, linguistic, and ethnic groups

☐ Accurately represents gender, socioeconomic backgrounds, and religious diversity

☐ Avoids stereotypes or tokenism

☐ Reflects the cultural backgrounds and lived experiences of our student population

☐ Provides opportunities for students to connect content to their own identity, heritage, and community
2. Non-Bias

☐ Free from linguistic, cultural, or ability-based bias

☐ Avoids content that privileges dominant cultural narratives or perspectives

☐ Assessments avoid assumptions about prior knowledge not taught in the curriculum

☐ Accessible language used (avoids unnecessarily complex or idiomatic phrasing)

☐ Reviewed for potentially sensitive or exclusive content
3. Alignment to State/National Standards

☐ Aligned to current state standards (e.g., Florida State Standards, NGSSS, or CCSS)
