Mod 9 Discussion: Oral Language Support in My Classroom

I plan to emphasize essential academic discussion principles in my classroom including respectful listening along with constructive feedback and the practice of building upon others' ideas. Adhering to these principles helps establish a learning atmosphere where students believe their contributions matter and openly express their ideas. I will use sentence starters and sentence frames as tools to help students construct their questions and responses. Using sentence starters such as “I agree with [Name] because…” or “I’d like to build on what [Name] said by adding…” enables students to express their thoughts clearly while practicing respectful listening and constructive feedback. The approach not only organizes discussions efficiently but also creates a classroom environment where every student feels free to contribute and work together which advances their thinking and communication abilities.
