Scenario Response 5
Begin assessing each student individually to establish attainable goals for fluency development in this diverse classroom. Implement flexible student groupings according to different fluency requirements which include bilingual and special education students and provide them with suitable scaffolding support. Use shared reading and read-aloud sessions to demonstrate fluent reading and then facilitate choral reading along with echo and repeated reading using engaging, leveled texts to inspire students to practice. Implement explicit fluency strategies including chunking techniques as well as punctuation and expression training. Students should be able to select their own material and receive constructive feedback while pairing with peers during buddy reading sessions enhances mutual assistance. Students can reinforce their fluency skills through daily fluency drills and optional reading sessions while family involvement through uncomplicated methods enhances learning beyond school hours. Students’ fluency and confidence will improve when educators implement consistent assessment alongside engaging texts and targeted strategies in a supportive environment.
