The instructional video presents a systematic method for teaching the "ow" sound using visual strategies like identifying the letter pair "O W" along with basic decoding rules that assist students in understanding new words. When working with students and teachers I use similar techniques which focus on clear rule-based instructions to build decoding abilities. I show students how to tackle new words by applying common letter sound rules as their first step and motivate them to use these methods at the beginning of their word decoding process. These techniques will become part of phonics lessons and reading interventions and will be supported with multisensory activities like letter tiles and visual aids to strengthen understanding of the rules.

I would adjust my educational strategy for ELLs by examining their linguistic backgrounds and existing phonetic knowledge. I would use images of words like "blow" and "crow" to establish associations and deliver language scaffolding tools including vocabulary charts and sentence frames to explain the concept. With practice that combines pronunciation exercises and contextual decoding as well as repetitive activities and experiential learning students will develop stronger comprehension understanding and grow more confident. When students learn through a transparent rule-based method they become better at decoding independently which improves their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
