Reflection on Assignment 1
Reflection on Assignment 1
My answer for what took the most thought and what was challenging are the same, how can I teach this lesson without it becoming a joke considering our current political climate. The lesson I chose was based on standard 2.1 which is citizenship. This lesson covers who is considered a citizen and the naturalization process. Immigration is a hot-button issue right now and many of my classes are divided as far as political views. When teaching this lesson I had to prevent the use of certain words or phrases such as "illegal" in place of "undocumented" and try desperately to prevent my students from pointing at my ELL and calling him illegal. That was challenging. It was also difficult to engage my students for the naturalization process of the lesson because they are already citizens so the naturalization process is irrelevant to them. As far as outcomes, this standard was actually one of the standards where students were the most successful.
