Criteria 4 is the one I would incorporate into my curriculum goals. This is something I have not yet mastered. I test often, but with 39 standards to teach a year, it's difficult to incorporate purposeful review. My goal for next year is to plan class period dedicated to review at the end of every unit. This is particularly important for my ELLs because they are already overwhelmed with learning everyday words that they are unintentionally putting civics vocabulary on the back burner. I plan to do a small group with ELLs where I use the help of Google Translates to help them understand civics concepts. Though they may not understand exactly what a multiple choice question is asking them, I can tell whether they understand connections. For example, if a question asks about Montesquieu and they select an answer that at least includes separation of powers, I know they get it. This is why I think the 4th ELA criteria is the most important to my curriculum goals.
