This student is a beginning writer. The next step is establishing writing routines. This would include mini lessons where I model writing essentials. This could also work at a small-group station. I would then monitor which step of the writing process students are on. Then I will consult with the students to make sure they have met all the criteria to move forward to each step. Then finally the peer coaching step where students can share feedback with each other. With an ELL, these steps will be modified to meet the ability of the student meaning a lot of allowances are given. For example, I would focus less on verb tense and spelling and more on sentence structure.
