In the beginning of the school year, the student was in her silent stage of the brain-based theory. She's listening and taking it all in. She's listening for words she knows and this exposure to English language allows her to pick up more words over time. Further into the year she is speaking some. At this point she could really benefit from being in a small group with other students where she can feel comfortable practicing English more. At this point of instruction I would not be correcting grammar or anything, just encouraging her to keep speaking up.
