The teaching and learning in the videos apply to my own work with students because it exemplifies how important it is to make connections for ELL's in order for them to follow along. In my classroom, I believe color coding mind maps when understanding a text would be very beneficial. By having my students tie a story element to a specific color they will know what we are attempting to identify every time we read a new text. For example, characters are orange. A worksheet is provided with an orange square, students knows they can draw or write the characters in the story.
