For this scenario, I think the Brain-Based Theory of language acquisition best applies to this student. According to this theory, second language learners go through a "silent stage" where they listen more than they speak, which seems to be what’s happening with this student. This stage is crucial as they’re absorbing the language, even if they’re not yet producing much of it themselves.

In terms of instruction, it’s important to provide comprehensible input that challenges her just slightly beyond her current level of understanding. This might involve using visuals, gestures, and simplified language to make the content more accessible. It would also be helpful to create a supportive, low-stress environment where she feels safe to try speaking when she’s ready, without pressure to correct every mistake. This approach would allow her to feel more comfortable and gradually build confidence in using the new language.
